Photo: Ari IjäsResearch on policing covers a wide range of issues. The common nominator of the research activities of the team is policing and interplay with various partners in a changing society. The topics of the research projects change annually.

Generally speaking research on policing focus on both the effectiveness and emerging challenges of policing, and foreshadow future events in the field security and policing. Cooperation with other agencies, authorities and with civil society is essential.

Currently, research is done or is planned to do on the following areas: problematique of security; terrorism & radicalisation & community policing; legislation on private security sector; investigation of asylum seeker process by Finnish Police and Border Guard; integration, inter-cultural communication and best practices: a case of Thai community; changing security environment and policing; legitimation of suicide bombers.

The policing research team is headed by senior researcher Mr. Kari Laitinen (Dr.Soc.Sc.).
